Unique Antiques and Flea Market Finds

_DSC9602.jpg

Antique stores are like a time machine. I always learn a lot about a place by browsing antique shops because the wares may be unique to that area or tell a story about the people who live there. One of the things I love about antiquing is that I never know what I’ll find. Each shop has a unique selection of items, with different merchandise coming in regularly. Even if I don’t buy anything, it’s fun to look. If you’re like me, you’ll enjoy antiquing in Halifax County. There is something for bargain hunters and those with luxurious tastes.

There is much more to Riverside Mill than antiques, including outlet shops and a craft gallery. This former cotton mill is the perfect place for treasure hunting, and I especially love finding specialty items with a regional flavor. I could easily spend an entire day here shopping for women’s clothing and accessories, furniture, Christmas decor, and rugs in the outlet shops. The craft gallery features a variety of fine arts and unique crafts with an emphasis on local artisans. The spacious, half-acre antique mall is the place to find collectibles and one-of-a-kind pieces at bargain prices.

Pepper & Doughtie’s Antiques & Gifts

When I want pieces that are well-made and make a statement, I head to Pepper & Doughtie’s Antiques and Gifts. Located in the center of Roanoke Rapids, this shop deals in high-end furnishings, clocks, decorative arts, and collectibles. Pepper and Doughtie’s specializes in selling classic furniture styles like Chippendale, Queen Anne, Colonial, and Federal. Customers come for the elegant atmosphere, the quality of the merchandise, and the care and attention to detail of store owners Wesley and Yvonne.

Rivertown Consignments

Looking for luxury on a budget? Rivertown Consignments in Roanoke Rapids is another option for upscale vintage items. The store always has a carefully curated selection of furniture, jewelry, art, antiques, and accessories. The shop carries new pieces, as well as consigned and antique auction items. Look for resale pieces from West Elm, Williams Sonoma, Restoration Hardware, and Bombay Company, among other well-known brands. I love that Rivertown Consignments also sells local food and wine, and I discovered they even host wine tastings.

Downtown Weldon Flea Market

Who doesn’t love a flea market? A good flea market is a diamond in the rough, offering wares from the quirky to the elegant. I love finding something different every time I go. It’s fun to browse, people watch, and talk to the vendors. And if I want to buy something, haggling on the price is part of the fun. This indoor flea market, open Wednesday through Sunday, is a great place to browse and shop for one-of-a-kind treasures.

301 Endless Yard Sale

For one special weekend each year, a 100-mile stretch of US Highway 301 – which runs through Halifax County – becomes the 301 Endless Yard Sale. I think of it as a flea market on steroids. This annual event draws huge crowds of shoppers and sellers. Vendors are set up around Riverside Mill in Weldon and stops along 301 including Halifax & Entfield.. Admission is free.
